Earlier today, I was making lunch and pouring a coffee and while eating, I was thinking about how funny it is when fans of great artists are super vocal about how perfectionism is a toxic trait. It just makes me wonder if they know that the reason why the artist is so great is because of their crazy attention to catch errors and small details. If they weren't perfectionists, they would have just been your boring run-on-the-mill artist with no personality or anything to write home about. Brian Wilson would listen to sounds no one else heard because he lived for that shit. That doesn't make him a "psycho". Kobe was a competitive athlete who never settled for less and treated every game like his last. That doesn't make him a "psycho". Ye used society's rejection of his creativity as fuel to unleash his more fearless side and innovate pop music. That doesn't make him "psycho".

I'm a strong believer that if you really care about your work, you will do everything to challenge yourself and go "not good enough". But that doesn't mean be cruel to yourself. Analyze the errors. Write it down and know what not to do the next time you pick up the pencil. Never settle for mediocrity. "Eh, it gets the job done" is a phrase that really pisses me off. I wish having high standards and being a perfectionist wouldn't be such a shunned trait.

Highty toity cliques in society have painted a narrative that having any passion and drive for art makes you a "dork" or a "sperg". The most insecure people I've met always love calling the unfamiliar "schizophrenic" and don't just take the time understanding the nuances and subject matters. Maybe because they're afraid of challenging the status quo or are peer pressured by groupthinks. Who knows, I've stopped having this mindset a year ago.

My thing is so many art circles have promoted "dos and don'ts" they think are healthy for artists while sabotaging the next Ralph Bakshi forming in front of our very eyes and I don't like it. Anyways, dropping this really cool Steve Jobs commercial that's fitting to end this blog post with. Normal people make boring art.

What's good? It's been a week since I last posted a blog. Anyone wondering how the Tame Impala concert went, it was prrretty cool. They played songs from their other albums besides their recent one so that was a good surprise. Other than that, my weeks been just okay to uneventful. Well, actually, the Oscars did happen. Besides the most talked about topic relating Will Smith and Chris Rock, I wanted to talk about the OTHER thing ppl have been discussing. "Animation is for everyone, not just kids". Where do I even start? This topic has been chillin in my head rent free since it's deeper than just "normies don't understand my niche interests". I would put my few cents by saying it's because the mainstream shit that's being produced are just genuinely childish. Barely anything on Netflix or Hulu or whatever stream service provides good examples for people that animation should be looked at as a form of universal storytelling. Trust me, no adult will be convinced that your interest and hobby should be treated as smth than a toy by showing them this shit.

So many ppl that are directing cartoons right now try hard to be funny and be the most righteous cartoon that touches children's heart or whatever. Too many cartoons with characters crying in it. It's embarrassing, but again, these people are only inspired by anime and video games. Nothing broader than that. My point is that animation CAN be a way of telling a story for all ages and leaving an impact. We're just letting mediocrity be the voice. The industry needs to hire skilled cartoonists that can make a quality toon with standards. I don't want more cartoons that treat and raise the audience like morally righteous babies. That is all. Good night.

What's good, newgrounds? I decided that if I want to just dump something that's on my mind, I'll just write them out here and whateva! ^___^ Anyways, introduction out of the way, I was downloading music from soulseek for me to listen to later in the week. Tame Impala was an important one though because later today, I'm going to go see them live (i would say tmrw but that's not accurate considering today's THE day I go to the Philly concert), so what else is better to do in my day than revisiting their discography. (If you want my quick review, I like Currents but their non rock, more ambient pop tracks don't REALLY do it for me. Lonerism was sick though, lotsa good tracks on it. Slow rush is eh, and it's ironic cuz that's the album they're playing live. Fail...) Aside from music, I downloaded Preston Blair's Animation book guide and it's a very great read. If you want to improve your construction, this is the book for you. I'll leave some of my favorite pages here. That's all for tonight's blog. Not bad for a first one, if I do say so myself. Looking forward to using this feature more. Good night!

Sup, Newgrounds. Merry Christmas and a happy holiday to all! Hope the turkey and potatoes were delicious. However, your Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without watching these cartoons I helped out on with the guys at Tornada. We all worked hard in pumping these out for the livestream that premiered on the 23rd. We appreciated the overall positive reception!
